Six Flags Great Adventure Coasters and Thrill Rides

Kingda Ka

Six Flags Great Adventure will break the worlds record for speed and height with Kingda Ka, for 2005.  The Intamin rocket coaster will launch at 128 mph and reach a height of 456 ft, before finishing with a 129 ft. elongated bunny hill.

Superman, Ultimate Flight

A Bolliger and Mabillard flying coaster, built in 2003, with a height of 115 ft. and length of  2759 ft., reaching a top speed of 60 mph.   We have not yet ridden this coaster.

Nitro

Built in 2001 was Nitro, a Bolliger and Mabillard steel hypercoaster.  This one is an "L" shaped out and back, with a height of 230 ft., with a first drop of 215 ft., providing an 80 mph ride over its 5394 ft. long track.  Excellent ride, great speed, and beautiful scenery.  The sharp drops making the turn to the "L" are great and fast.  Voted #6, of Top 50 steel coasters, by Amusement Today Magazine, for 2004.

Medusa

Medusa was built in 1999, and was the first Bolliger &Mabillard, floorless, sit-down, multi-looper coaster built. This ride is fast, features 7 inversions, and, as is common with B&M coasters, very smooth. You must ride in the front seats for the best effects of your feet "dangling" down by the track. Anywhere else, you tend to loose the effects. This is a great coaster, but you tend to get transfixed watching the track. The coaster will take you up 142 feet, and drop you 132 feet, reaching a speed of over 60 mph.  Voted #34, of Top 50 steel coasters, by Amusement Today Magazine, for 2004.

Batman the Ride

This is another Bolliger &Mabillard inverted coaster. A normal Batman clone, inverted coaster, but this model does bring you closer to the ground. As with all Batman coasters, there it is heavily themed.  It has a 105 ft. height and 2693 ft. long track with a top speed of 50 mph.

Batman and Robin, The Chiller

These are LIM launched, dual track shuttle coasters, each with a different layout. The Batman (blue) side has an interesting vertical drop section. The Robin (red) side has more noticeable G forces.

Great American Scream Machine

GASM is a 7 inversion, Arrow, multi-looper steel coaster. This one produced less head-banging than other similar Arrow coasters. Built in 1989, it has a top height of 173 feet, and a 3800 ft. length, reaching a top speed of 68 mph.

Rolling Thunder

This is a racing, figure eight, wooden coaster, but only one side was running. Built in 1979, it has a height of 96 feet, with a length of 3200 feet. Good ride, good airtime, strong laterals. As with most wooden coasters, it needed some grease.

Skull Mountain

Skull Mountain is an enclosed, dark, steel coaster. Not overly exciting, but a fun ride.

Runaway Mine Train

This coaster is a lively Arrow mine ride. It produced some surprising strong airtime from its 48 ft. height. Built in 1974, it has a length of 2429 feet.

Viper

Viper is a TOGO steel heartline coaster, built in 1995. This is easily the worst coaster experience we have ever had. The head-banging is considerable, and it is not a comfortable ride. It has a height of 89 feet, with a length of 1670 feet, with an interesting effect of steel rings circling the track.

Roadrunner Railway

A steel kiddie coaster that we did not hit the height requirement to ride.

Blackbeards Lost Treasure Train

New for 1999 is this junior Tivoli coaster, built by Zierer. It has a very long train. A nice starting coaster for beginners.

About The Park

Six Flags Great Adventure is a large amusement park, located midway between Philadelphia and New York City, near Jackson, New Jersey.

The park was greatly improved during our 2001 visit.  During our first visit, the park was very dirty, gang graffiti everywhere, and a noticeable lack of security.    We found the park generally dirty, lots of trash, graffiti and gang emblems everywhere. In 2001, the park was noticeably cleaner with much improved security. A nice change.

The park is generally confusing to navigate around, and, as with all Six Flags parks, the map was not much help.  The park is a very expensive park, parking, admission, and food.

Admission to the Wild Safari animal park is now included with admission.
